Evolution of infections in January
As you probably already know, the Christmas campaign has ended and with it a new escalation of infections has arrived, Wednesday of this week was the day of kings, and with that the festivities end. Despite the measures taken by the government, the number of infections has increased as expected, as most people have reunited with family and friends.
All this comes from the hand of the new vaccine, which has given many people security for the future since they hope that all this will end it, but unfortunately, the units that are arriving in Spain are very limited and are being distributed little by little bit. The first groups of people to receive these vaccines are going to be sanitary and older, but currently not enough are available for everyone.
We have been able to appreciate in the latest data how all these events have increased the number of infections, in what is now considered "The third wave”Of coronavirus. The figures speak for themselves as the number of infected has doubled.
In November it was estimated that the number of infected was 150 per 100.000 inhabitants, but at this time they already reach 300. On January 4, 30.579 were infected, a clear increase in cases so far. Unfortunately, the alert and emergency centers affirm that it is still too early to know the real impact and the number of infected, so we will have to wait for the real impact that these festivities have had.
Experts say the real impact is expected to be known within two weeks or even three. We can only be patient and hope that the figures do not rise as much as expected. Autonomous Communities such as Catalonia, Extremadura, Castilla y León and the Valencian Community, have already taken extraordinary measures in this regard, restricting mobility and even closing shops.

The most affected
As expected, the increase in those infected has brought with it an increase in occupied hospital beds, especially in ICU beds. Today 13.800 people are admitted to a hospital for coronavirus, that is, 11% of the beds occupied in Spain, are due to a covid infection, which greatly increases the risk of contagion in patients at risk and health.
Let's bear in mind that this only represents the national average, 7 autonomous communities register more than 25% of the beds occupied by patients with coronavirus, according to data from the Ministry of Health. These autonomous communities would be: Balearic Islands, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Catalonia, Valencian Community, Madrid and La Rioja.
